I think of Chelsea as my stepchild. Something I have to like because it’s part of the family I married into. I largely only support them because of the effect their results have on The B/L. “Fortunately” (and I use the word advisedly) this has become much easier since 2005 when my beloved Southampton were relegated to some soft drink sponsored nonsense league (I cried a lot that afternoon). I don’t feel as guilty wishing the Blues well as their success/failure has absolutely no influence on the rather desperate league situation of the “mighty” (again using the word advisedly) Saints.
So, given that Southampton has blown its chances of getting into the play offs AGAIN this year (well barring a bloody miracle), at least my stepchild is giving me something to get excited about at the end of the season. I think the quadruple is unlikely, Man U have been playing too well this season and deserve some reward but the potential triple of fixtures in May is a mouthwatering prospect.
Talking of mouthwatering prospects, I have a confession…any Chelsea success also has an added bonus…increased media coverage and interview opportunities with the most gorgeous manager football has ever known!
