New job

Filed under: Life, Matters work related — by featherduster @ 9:33 pm

I do hate being the new girl. I especially hate it when you don’t really know what you’re supposed to be doing, can’t work out who’s supposed to tell you and none of the technology seems to work.

Besides that…who knew Liverpool Street was so cool and with such NICE shops (if this turns into a permanent job, I foresee credit card problems)?

Final moments of freedom (well hopefully)

Filed under: Life, Matters domestic, Matters work related — by featherduster @ 7:50 am

So it was a bit of a shock to get a phone call yesterday offering me a job and asking if I can start tomorrow – eek! Obviously delighted as Jeremy Kyle was beginning to do my head in (although will be missing Deal or No Deal which is strangely addictive). Plus of course the bank balance will be grateful for a cash injection after nothing but withdrawals since I went to Africa.

I’m trying not to count my chickens because this could just be a temporary state of employment but I have spent most of the night making mental lists of “things to do today”. This of course means I’ve failed in my first task: have a lie in (obviously not helped by the Beloved’s bizarre morning routine which involves waking up horribly early). Obviously there’s no life or death things that HAVE to be done today but life is accompanied by a lot of admin some of which is tricky to fit into a working day. I may actually still have to take a half day for admin next week because it’s the sort of admin (dr and electrician) that can’t be done in an office.

This working full time lark (something I haven’t done for over a year) is a bit of a frightening concept.

Facebooking

Filed under: Blogtastic — by featherduster @ 7:39 am

Why is Facebooking SO addictive? I am loving it because it’s easy to do and actually really works in terms of ease of keeping in touchness (technical term obviously).

I am still firmly sticking to my rule of only have friends who are friends in the real world and I haven’t quite got my head round prodding, poking, super-poking etc – besides isn’t poking someone just a bit rude? It’s been easy to fit in because I haven’t been working but obviously that all changes tomorrow so I have to be careful not to come home and plug in then wonder where on earth the evening went (also will leave me in a no win situation when it comes to moaning at the Beloved about such activity).

The run is over

After a 43 week unbeaten run (stretching back to September last year), I lost this week in my football predictions league – poo! Needless to day many boys are delighted.

De Menezes verdict

Filed under: London — by featherduster @ 3:28 pm

Most of the time I have every sympathy for the police who are often doing a dangerous and thankless job (especially in these “leafy” parts of SW London) but the De Menezes shooting has always made me angry especially the implication that in dangerous times the normal rulebook should be chucked out. So I am “pleased” with the verdict that the police endangered the public. Obviously this is not a “pleasing” result for anyone and will have implications for the Met in particular but the police have to be held accountable when things go wrong and there were always things about the official account which did not sit straight. As no one person within the police would admit they got it wrong, they have to take collective responsibility for the tragic loss of an innocent life.

Dracula’s late visit

Filed under: Health — by featherduster @ 10:03 am

So the delightful doctor ordered a whole load of blood tests (for no apparent reason – how he expects pernicious anaemia to clear itself up I do not know). Went off to the lovely St Thomas’s this morning (fasting blood tests are obviously my favourite) and even the nurse said: “Gosh, they want a lot of blood don’t they?”.

Actually can’t complain. St Thomas’s system is really rather good – you turn up, take a ticket and then get seen by a nice nurse. These nurses are generally rather jolly and as they take blood all day every day, they’re good at it so you tend to avoid (my) usual problems of not being able to find a vein and then the little titchy vein they found collapses. My nice nurse today even went off to get a little needle because of my rather small and imperfectly formed veins. So we shall wait and see what all these tests show – the good thing is I’m feeling really rather well: hurrah!
